GUR is a pairing of contemporary illustration and traditional Portuguese rug weaving. Conceived by Célia Esteves, a Portuguese designer and printmaker, GUR invites artists to express themselves on this support with a very specific technique using the same materials with the authenticity of a traditional Portuguese kitchen rug but now much more fun.

You can find from black & white rugs to colourful carpets. Sounds good, isn’t it? Let’s take a closer look at their products (perfect for any children’s room).

When Esteves met a weaver who for years had been handcrafting this style of rug, decided to hire the weaver to use the same technique to produce colourful limited-edition designs commissioned from illustrators she admired, like André da Loba, Marta Monteiro and José Cardoso.

Now, GUR has collaboration with artists and studios like Atelier Bingo, Cachetejack, Ian Stevenson or Après Ski.

All the GUR are handmade, held in a traditional hand loom, with raw tirela (rag), embossed technique or over layers of colours, finishing with basic sewing. Each rug takes about a day to complete, and each design is made in an edition of 50.

GUR can be the first place where you (or your kids) put your feet in the morning, a picnic friend or a frame in your living room. Love!
